Nissan will finally be marking its entry into the sub-4m SUV space in Nepal with the Magnite, and with its stylish looks, extensive feature list, as well as aggressive pricing the Nissan SUV aims to make things difficult for its rivals. Speaking of which, the Magnite will be thrown into a pool full of rivals such as the Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300, and the Ford EcoSport. We have put together a list of the top 5 things to know about the upcoming Nissan Magnite.1. The Magnite has been built on Nissan’s modular CMF-A+ platform that also underpins the Renault Triber. This particular platform will also be used by Renault for its own sub-4m SUV called the Kiger, which is expected to be launched in India sometime next year.
2. The Nissan Magnite gets a huge grille that looks aggressive on its face, it does make the Magnite look like other models like the Kicks or even the entry-level Datsun Go Facelift. The swept-back sleek headlamps too will remind you of the Kicks and it has the stance that is befitting of an SUV. The squared wheel arches with bold cladding on them and silver skid plates both on the front and the rear add to its robust demeanor as well. It has a ground clearance of 205 mm and there are 16-inch alloy wheels offered as standard. You also get LED fog lamps and LED tail lamps which make the overall look rather appealing.
3. While the pricing in Nepal isn’t out yet, in India, however, Nissan has undercut all its rivals on the price front by a significant margin and has positioned the base Magnite XE at a very attractive INR 4.99 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom, Delhi). In comparison, the next most affordable compact SUV model is the Kia Sonet 1.2 HTE that is priced a substantial INR 1.72 lakh higher. The entry-level pricing of the Magnite also means that it is positioned on par with the much-smaller Maruti Suzuki Wagon R 1.0 VXI (O) hatchback, lower than the base Suzuki Swift LXI and much cheaper than the most affordable premium hatchback – the Tata Altroz XE. On the higher-end, the feature-loaded Magnite XV Premium (INR 7.55 lakh) is priced close to the low-spec Sonet HTK (INR 7.59 lakh) and the Venue S (INR 7.47 lakh)
4. Powering the Magnite are two different 1.0-liter petrol powertrains – a naturally aspirated unit producing 72 PS of maximum power, along with 96 Nm of peak torque, and a turbo petrol unit that makes 100 PS power and 160 Nm torque (152 Nm with CVT). A 5-speed manual gearbox is offered with both the engines as standard, while the turbo petrol unit can also be had with an optional CVT auto.5. On the safety front, the Magnite comes equipped with dual frontal airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, around view monitor, a tire pressure monitoring system, and ISOFIX child seat anchors. It also gets front seatbelt reminders as well as a high-speed alert system.
